Al is President and Chief Investment Officer for Acacia Research Group LLC, an industry leader in patent licensing. Previously Al served as portfolio manager at Sidus Investment Management, a technology investment firm he co-founded in March 2000. Mr. Tobia is Chairman of the board of Harte Hanks, a board he has served on since 2017.

Prior to Sidus, Al was a publishing research analyst covering the data networking and telecommunications sectors as Senior Managing Director at Montgomery Securities, Nations Bank and Bank of America. He was a Senior Technology Analyst at Wertheim Shroeder & Co. During this period, Al was twice named to the Wall Street Journal’s Analyst All-Star team for stock selection. Prior to that, he was a technology analyst at Mabon Nugent & Co.
